INFORMATION FOR WRESTLERS
You are the most important part of growing this sport and getting girls wrestling sanctioned in PA!
Thinking about trying wrestling? Watch our virtual Try-It Night and see what wrestling is all about!
Ready to try wrestling?
Contact your school’s wrestling program to sign-up for the team!
Looking for a local club to wrestle at? Check out the list of PA clubs or reach out to the Pennsylvania Women’s Wrestling Facebook page and they will help connect you! You can also find out about introductory practices, clinics, and events on their page.
Talk to your friends and classmates to get them to sign up for wrestling as well. Many girls are hesitant to join at first because they are afraid of how they will be welcomed to the team. Having a friend to join you can help ease those feelings.
You’re also welcome to contact us at email@example.com if you have questions about the sport!
We are so excited to work with you and support you in building this sport. Thank you for being trailblazers and leaders. You are influencing and impacting generations of girls to come and are truly making history.
Why is getting my school to add a girls wrestling team and why is getting girls wrestling sanctioned in PA important?
Sanctioning girls wrestling in PA shows this state’s commitment to you and your development as a wrestler and as a person. Sanctioning would create an official state tournament for girls, providing you the opportunity to be a PIAA State Champion. Adding a team at your school and sanctioning the sport can also help provide you with more opportunities to compete against other girls so you are not forced to compete against boys. Sanctioning helps create an even playing field. It also helps to grow the sport at your school and across the state. As you have more opportunities to compete and work towards your goals, it will also provide more opportunities for you to attend college and even to get recruited and continue your wrestling journey at the next level. (The current list of colleges offering women’s wrestling can be found here.)
Having an official team and sport helps legitimize all of the hard work you have put in. It’s time to be recognized for it.
As a female wrestler, your voice is the most important one to this initiative. If you are interested in getting involved to help sanction girls wrestling or get a program at your school, there are several things you can do:
Communicate the #SanctionPA efforts - Be positive and collaborative in your social media engagement – we all must work together in this initiative!
Reach out to your school (coach, Athletic Director, Principal, etc.) about adding a girls team. Contacting your school can often be the best way to express your desire for a girls team. If you need ideas about what you could say in an email to your school administration, check out our Template Wrestler Email. This was written by a PA high school wrestler!
Recruit other girls to wrestle - invite friends, share about girls wrestling online, or even use flyers to let girls know they can wrestle
“Like” Pennsylvania Women’s Wrestling on Facebook to stay up to date with the SanctionPA initiative as well as to hear about events, clinics, college opportunities, and to stay connected to other wrestlers
Make a video of support - Some girls have recorded videos about what wrestling means to them and why they want a girls team at their school. Check out some of the videos girls from PA have made, and if you are inspired, consider making one and letting your voice be heard!
Please feel free to get in touch with us at firstname.lastname@example.org any time if you have questions or if we can help work with you and your school.
